Olive Leaf Benefits:

The olive tree is not only known for its olives and oil, but also for its leaves, which are beneficial for a whole host of health issues.

Olive leaf has been shown to support healthy thyroid function by decreasing excess production of TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormones). This is beneficial for those who suffer from hyperthyroidism.

Thyroxine is a thyroid hormone that the liver and kidneys convert into its active form triiodothyronine which plays a vital role in maintaining brain development, heart function ad metabolic rate, and more. The imbalance of these hormones damages the thyroid gland and the olive leaf can effectively balance and regulate these hormones.

Animal studies have shown that olive leaves can drop rising and elevated blood pressure. High blood pressure is a symptom of hypothyroidism due to the imbalance of thyroid hormones can cause a slow heartbeat, which negatively affects the blood vessel wall flexibility and pumping strength of your heart.

Olive leaf has potent antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that help boost immune function and help fight against free radicals. Thyroid complications such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis weaken the immune system by causing it to attack your own body. If you don't maintain a healthy immune system, your body will continue to attack its own organs and glands, including the thyroid.

Thyroiditis refers to the inflammation of the thyroid gland. Olive leaf and the oil both contain high amounts of oleuropein (olive leaf is much higher), which plays a vital role in reducing body inflammation. Oleuropein also prevents the production of protein-damaging enzymes that cancer cells use to permeate healthy tissues.

Thyroid issues can cause a slow metabolic rate, which can cause weight gain, fatigue, and muscle weakness. As olive leaf helps to balance thyroid hormones this positively affects the metabolic rate too.

Although there is no clear evidence of a link between thyroid issues and arthritis, the two often develop together. Olive leaf has anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce the damage to your thyroid gland and joints.

Flu and Colds

Olive leaf is known as a Bug-Buster and has gathered much attention for its cold & flu prevention/treatment. Natural antibiotics like olive leaf contain anti-fungal and anti-viral properties which may be the most effective means of combating many of today's new strains of colds and flu, including many potent varieties of influenza and parainfluenza viruses. Olive leaf interacts with the protein in cold and flu virus particles to halt infection, according to a recent report published in Alternative Medicine Review. Additionally, the energy and immune system boosting properties of olive leaf dramatically increase the body's inherent ability to resist illness and dis-ease. Chronic colds and upper respiratory infections are often a sign of an overwhelmed immune system. The antioxidants contained within olive leaf have the effect of eliminating damaging free radicals, leaving far more of the immune system's resources available for fighting off colds and flu. Olive leaf's combined qualities of boosting the effectiveness of the immune system and weakening the virus itself create a powerful, safe, and natural defense against these, and other pathogens. This leaves you invigorated, happy and healthy all year round. Consistency is the key to establishing this natural defensive barrier, whether through teas, capsules, extracts, or a combination of all three. Olive leaf is safe to take in conjunction with a flu shot, histamine blockers, and traditional cold medications. Unlike over-the-counter remedies, which have been shown to be detrimental to the health of young children, the olive leaf may be used by persons of all ages.

The olive leaf acts as a preventative measure and acts to shorten the duration of colds and the flu.

Viruses

The main constituent of olive leaf is the phytochemical oleuropein, which is broken down to oleanolic acid, has a powerful anti-bacterial effect, and the ability to interfere with critical amino acid production essential for viruses. Oleuropein is a bitter monoterpene glycoside of the class known as secoiridoids and is also one of the major components found in the polyphenolic portion of olive oil. Research suggests that olive leaf may be a true anti-viral compound because it appears to selectively block an entire virus-specific system in the infected host. It then appears to offer healing effects not addressed by pharmaceutical antibiotics. Olive leaf's broad wide-spectrum killing power includes an ability to interfere with critical amino acid production for viruses; an ability to contain viral infection and/or spread by inactivating viruses by preventing virus shredding, budding, or assembly at the cell membrane; and the ability to directly penetrate infected cells and stop viral replication.

Healthy Heart - Lower Cholesterol & Blood Pressure

Studies have consistently demonstrated that the Mediterranean diet of which olive leaf is a large part is correlated with a lower than average risk of coronary heart disease. Heart diseases seem to respond well to the introduction of olive leaf tea and extracts. According to laboratory and clinical studies, olive leaf alleviates numerous disorders related to insufficient arterial blood flow, including angina pectoris and intermittent claudication. It helps eliminate arterial fibrillation (arrhythmia), lowers high blood pressure, and inhibits LDL cholesterol from oxidizing, it relaxes the blood vessels and prevents the buildup of plaque in them, all of which lower blood pressure.

Olive leaf contains a complex structure of substances that act as vasodilators, lowering blood pressure. The hypotensive action of olive leaf has been studied for two decades: Researchers noted a statistically significant decrease in blood pressure for all patients, without side effects.

Like the polyphenolic component of red wine, resveratrol, oleuropein imparts some important antioxidant benefits that may help prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and support healthy heart function. The oxidation of LDL cholesterol, the so-called "bad" cholesterol can severely damage the walls of arteries and lead to arteriosclerosis or “hardening of the arteries”. Along with resveratrol, oleuropein is high on the list of beneficial components of the acclaimed Mediterranean Diet (which includes olive oil), believed to be responsible for the reduced incidence of heart disease in those who habitually partake in the Diet. Olive leaf reduces Hypertension

Research has shown that oleuropein had anti-arrhythmic and vasodilating effects in addition to hypotensive activity. The body metabolizes oleuropein to calcium elenolate, which appears to be responsible for many of the pharmacological effects of olive leaf.

Chronic Fatigue

reported a radical improvement when taking olive leaf internally and report more energy and a better sense of wellbeing. In the U.S.A. the use of olive leaf extract has become very popular with doctors, naturopaths, and the general public where it is being prescribed for the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). CFS is associated with immune dysfunction, which allows infections with a variety of opportunistic microbes from herpes viruses, retroviruses, fungi, and parasites.

Herpes

Did you know that as many as 90% of us have been exposed to this viral infection? And most people who have it show no symptoms! Most of the research on olive leaf's anti-viral properties has come from studies on viruses of which herpes is a common one. In 1969 the research of Dr. Renis working with the Upjohn company proved that a compound of oleuropein from the olive leaf could kill all viruses, including herpes (both oral and genital), against which it was tested. After the active components were isolated in 1969, an upsurge of research has resulted in continuing discoveries. In 1992 French biologists found that all of the herpes viruses were inhibited or killed by extracts from olive leaf. More herpes & olive leaf information, herpes natural cure, treatment & vaccine

Shingles (Herpes Zoster Virus)

If you've had chickenpox, you're at risk for this potentially serious disease. Once a person has had chickenpox, the virus can live, but remain inactive, in your body. If it becomes active again, usually later in life, it can cause Shingles. When the immune system is working properly you do not have to suffer very long. Olive leaf builds your immune system naturally. Enhancing the immune system with a good diet, exercise, olive leaf, and a healthy lifestyle can help prevent shingles outbreaks.

You can end the shingles symptoms including pain, rashes, itching, inflammation, redness, and blisters, and return to normal with herbal and pharmaceutical treatments. Olive leaf capsules, tea, and extracts fight the shingles virus from the inside. Skin cream and bar soap with olive leaf extract can be applied wherever shingles are a problem.

Diabetes & Hypoglycemia

Researchers have found that the natural olive leaf compounds can lower the level of blood sugar. There are several cases in my clinic confirming this finding. One involved a 15-year-old girl with juvenile diabetes. The teenager had been regularly taking 350 units of insulin daily for control. After one month on olive leaf extract, she was able to maintain similar control with just 220 units. In another case, the blood sugar level of a diabetic elderly priest dropped from 450 to 160 after three months of olive leaf treatment. In yet another instance, the blood sugar of a middle-aged man stabilized at 140, down from 250, after one month. He reported a great increase in energy during this time. Olive leaf extracts have been shown in laboratory studies to lower blood sugars, but their use in treating diabetes in humans is not well documented.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

A number of patients have experienced a significant easing of joint pain. After taking olive leaf for three weeks customers notice more flexibility in their fingers, elbows, and neck. There was also marked relief of muscle tension surrounding the joints.

Yeast Infections, Candida

Candida is a yeast that can be found in nearly everyone. However, when someone is referring to "Candida" they are probably meaning Candidiasis, which is an overgrowth of Candida. Olive leaf is shown to improve candida infections and the resultant discharge, psoriasis, PMS, weight problems, headaches, and other symptoms that coincide with yeast infections. Olive Leaf is an effective killer of harmful bacteria, viruses, yeasts, and fungi. As these die-off in your gut, the areas they occupied on the linings will be exposed. It is helpful to start the process of rebuilding the gut lining within days of taking Olive leaves (with healthy foods). This will not only assist your digestion, and in so doing, ensure more nutrients are absorbed into your bloodstream for rebuilding damaged cells and organs elsewhere in the body, it will discourage new microbes from colonizing your system again. The rebuilding process can take up to three months.

Fungal Infections

More than 10 million Americans are said to have disfiguring fungal nail infections, a widely ignored medical problem. It is frequently found among patients with AIDS, cancer, and diabetes, athletes, elderly individuals, people who spend considerable time standing or who wear the same shoes day after day, or who wear artificial fingernails. Drugs taken for many other conditions lower resistance and are believed to make people more susceptible to infection. Olive leaf has been shown to fight this fungus. Kill Toe Nail Fungus by making a poultice with olive leaf powder or applying liquid extract tincture directly to the affected area.

Toenail fungus is a common, contagious condition that strikes many people. Typically it occurs when the immune system is down and once contracted is difficult to eliminate from the system. Also referred to as onychomycosis, this widespread condition accounts for a large proportion of nail disorders and can become quite unsightly and painful. Beginning as discoloration or a light-colored spot under the tip of the toenail, this fungus will continue to spread until the entire nail becomes thick and yellow with rough and crumbling edges. Fortunately, toenail fungus does not have to be accepted as a distasteful part of life. Utilizing the natural healing potential of olive leaf is a safe and natural way to get rid of this unsightly and difficult ailment.

Allergies

The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology reports that Allergic disorders affect at least 50 million people in the US. Common symptoms range from Asthma, Eczema, Hay Fever, Headaches, swellings, fatigue, chills, sensitivity to light, and Loss of Appetite. These symptoms can be worsened by inherited tendencies, or exposure to environmental toxins such as smog, pesticides, even the food we eat and the water we drink! Allergies are often manifestations of the immune system being overloaded by the constant assault of pollution associated with modern life.

Olive Leaf the Allergy Buster

The botanical Olea Europaea (olive leaf) tea, extracts, and capsules are immune system boosters known to help control and eliminate various allergies. The antioxidants of olive leaf act directly to eliminate free radicals from the body, as well as aid with digestion. The less energy that your immune system uses acting as a “cleanup crew” for the body, the more of its resources are available for combating environmental allergens such as Pollen, Dust, and Mold. The key to utilizing olive leaf as consistency so that the immune system may permanently shift its focus to environmental allergens, and away from internal toxins, leaving you happier, healthier, and more able to enjoy life.

Skin & Topical use

Olive leaf extracts are rich in antioxidants and skin softening properties. Total luxury for dry skin! Olive leaf helps the skin with the presence of flavonoids and oleanolic acid, which stimulate the components of the connective tissue and regularize the tissue - thereby boosting the health of the skin. The secoiridoid derivatives (oleuropeoside) in olive leaves are responsible for the vaso-dilating and relaxing properties of their extracts. Olive leaf can be applied as a cream or in soap. Olive leaf fights skin blemishes and acne by mimicking the effectiveness of cortisone without the side effects.

Anti-aging effects of olive leaf extract are becoming common among skincare products from Johnson & Johnson, Biotherm, Proactive, and others. The Olivus bar soap and Silken Skin cream are great ways to keep skin clean & healthy on a cellular level. Plus olive leaf extract is proven to control acne and other skin blemishes.

Warts are pesky skin problems that can cause embarrassment because they are unsightly and can grow in virtually any part of your body. Most common warts show up on your knees, hands, feet, and elbows. However, there are also some types that establish a colony on your mouth, nail beds, and even the genital area. Since warts are caused by viruses, particularly the human papillomavirus, the olive leaf is an effective tool. See more on treating warts with an olive leaf.

Multiple Symptoms

Olive leaf extract appears to work at many different levels in the body. As a result, we often hear reports from patients that a variety of symptoms begin improving. One woman with chronic fatigue, frequent colds, asthma, and vaginal yeast infections said that all her symptoms had virtually cleared up within five weeks. The woman, a teacher, was able to take on new projects she wouldn't even begin to think was possible before.

In addition, olive leaf delivered as a tea can improve respiratory response, clear lungs, and ease breathing. Respiratory diseases (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, tracheitis, etc.) and lung conditions such as pneumonia and bronchitis react well to olive leaf. Other benefits of the olive leaf include a reduction of allergy and asthma symptoms.

More Energy

One of the most frequent comments we hear from clients after they start taking olive leaf is that they feel more energetic and have a greater sense of well-being. Many want to continue the supplement even after the treatment program has cleared up or reduced specific problems. Some people are energized to the point that they inquire whether there is an "upper" in the product. There is not. It simply generates a natural "upper" effect. Healthy people who take it say they also feel this infusion of energy without caffeine or other stimulants.

Protecting against cancer

Scientists have identified a new compound derived from olive leaf's oleanolic acid that protects against the development of liver cancer in laboratory animals. Both Liver and Breast cancers have been identified as responding to olive leaf. It is shown to be particularly effective in preventing cancers with a strong link to inflammation, such as liver, colon, prostate, and gastric cancers. More on olive leaf and cancer

Digestive Aid/Detox

It is estimated that more than 100 million people in America are affected by some form of digestive disorder. That's more than half of the U.S. population! For some people, digestive disorders are a source of irritation and discomfort that may cause them to limit their lifestyles and miss work frequently. For others, these disorders may be crippling. Olive leaf tea in specific has been shown to aid in the creation of appetite, digestion, and Detoxification. In addition to promoting activity and regularity in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) olive leaf tea provides an internal cleansing action that helps to eliminate harmful yeasts and bacteria. Toxins can be anything from food additives and pesticides to specific foods that induce a reactive response by the GIT.

IBS: Olive leaf extract combats inflammation and irritation in the intestinal tract and stomach. It has a soothing effect and regulates bowel movements while eliminating toxins from the body. The active ingredient contained in olive leaf, oleuropein, is found throughout the olive tree, however, is concentrated in the leaves. It has a very strong antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, and antiparasitic effect and thus helps to calm your IBS symptoms.

Other Conditions

Acne - Olive Leaf is known as the ancient way of curing acne this method has been used for over two thousand years and can be traced back to the days of ancient Greece. Olive tea and extract have been one of the main methods and among the best home remedies in combating skin illnesses such as acne. With proper use of olive leaf, your skin will be able to build a resistance to the many factors that can contribute to acne and will be looking better than ever.

Parasitic Infections - the olive leaf is an effective tool to eliminate parasites including tapeworms and other pesky invaders.

Others - Ear infections, bladder infections, diarrhea hepatitis, pneumonia, retrovirus, staph viruses, and more responsive to olive leaf.

Weight Loss - Olive leaf's digestive enhancement and energy-boosting “upper” effects are used by some for weight loss.

Antioxidant Power

Studies show that the olive leaf contains some of the most powerful antioxidants known. Antioxidants keep the free radicals in our bodies in check so that they don't promote too much oxidation, which can harm the walls and structure of cells, damage the genetic material inside a cell, and cause many serious diseases. Free Radicals can be caused by many factors: sun exposure, pollution, stress, poor diet, alcohol, and smoke. The high antioxidant qualities (12 proven Antioxidants) of olive leaf have been shown to "scavenge" Free Radicals even more than Vitamin C, Green Tea, Grape Seed Extract.

Please note that we are not advocating that people stop using their normal medication, but would like to make people aware that some alternative therapies can be very effective to help treat problems and create a healthier, younger, and more vital you. Although we believe in the therapeutic and healing properties of herbs, care must be taken in the use thereof, as they are powerful compounds.

Dosage: Either make a tea of olive leaf or 1 teaspoon powder or a minimum of 2 capsules/tablets daily (depends on extract power and mg of the capsule/tablet)
